Changing Reels - Pariah

How does a teenager come to terms with her sexual identity in an environment that refuses to acknowledge who she really is? This is the predicament that 17-year-old Alike finds herself in as she tries to navigate an overbearing mother, a father in denial and her own quest to find a relationship. We celebrate LGBT cinema, and the upcoming Inside Out Film Festival, by focusing on Dee Rees’ wonderful film Pariah. Before we dive into that film, we kick things off by discussing our short film picks: Dan’s Taberski’s These C*cksucking Tears and Alex Bohs’ Half.

Changing Reels is hosted by the fine folks at Modern Superior. We would also love it if you could take a moment to rate our show on iTunes! Every bit of listener feedback not only helps us reach a larger audience, but also helps us to make the show better. You can also find our show on Soundcloud and Stitcher. Also, you can send us your feedback on this episode or any of our episodes at want us to talk about? If so, be sure to submit your suggestions via Twitter, Facebook or by email.

  1. Wow. Thank you very much for such an incredibly fascinating and in-depth conversation, gents! Haven’t thought about “Half” in a good second so listening to you two talk about it and hearing how you experienced it brought me so much joy. Thanks so so much for your time.

Also the names of the gals are never spoken and were just given to the actors so no chastising necessary – I quite like “Left Frame Girl” and “Right Frame Girl” so props to you both for choosing those. 🙂

Keep up the tremendous work yourselves with this site by the way. Thankful to have my work as part of the discussion.

    All my very best,

Alex (writer, director, editor of “Half”)
