Elijah Wood, Seth Rogen, and Danny McBride lead an all-star cast in this short film that was created in 2011 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Beastie Boys iconic “Fight for Your Right” music video. Directed by The Beastie Boys’ own Adam Yauch, the story picks up right at the conclusion of the music video and documents the boys wreaking havoc on the citizens of New York. Over the course of a day the boys break into a liquor store, drop acid and get involved in a breakdance competition with future versions of themselves. All of this makes for an amusing thank you letter to the fans that have supported the band throughout the years.
Fight for Your Right Revisited
Director: Adam Yauch / USA / 2011 / 30 minutes
It’s been a long, long time since I’ve seen that short. It’s a great one as it plays to the chaos that the old Beastie Boys did and the fact that they still had the skills to back it up. The ending was the best part though it makes me sad that Adam Yauch is no longer with us.
It was a sad day when Adam Yauch passed. I will always remember my brief encounter with Yauch at TIFF a few years back. He sat in front of me at screening of Treeless Mountain, and it took a lot for me to not geek out all over him.
