Looking over the schedule for the upcoming Hot Docs Festival, I could not help but reflect on how much I loved Jay Cheel’s Beauty Day which screened at the festival a few years back. It still ranks amongst my favourite documentaries in recent years. While Cheel is hard at work on his upcoming feature documentary, How to Build a Time Machine, this entertaining documentary short he made in 2012 has helped me to get in the Hot Docs mood. The Politics of Competitive Board Gaming Amongst Friends is a charming and amusing look at how board games and friendships can be a volatile combination.
