Very happy overall! Still shocked over the Suicide Squad nomination, and gutted to not see Amy Adams’ name 😦
The nomination for Suicide Squad shocked me as well. In regards to Amy Adams, I think she just split the vote by having two strong performances in Arrival and Nocturnal Animals. Personally, I was pulling for her to get a nomination for Arrival.
No love for Silence at all, or for Annette Bening for 20th Century Women? And La La Land gets nominated for everything? How am I not surprised? #OscarsSoPredictable
I honestly think Scorsese released Silence way too late in the year. That type of film needs to be digested and thought about for a while. While we all expected La La Land to do well, I am most interested in the documentary category. I have seen all of the nominees and that one is going to be a tight race.
yeah the docu’s i’m really curious about. I can’t believe I am yet to see OJ: Made in America. I love 30-for-30 films and that seems like one of their crowning achievements.
O.J.: Made in America is great, the 7 hours just fly by.
Suicide Squad getting nominated is absolutely hilarious to me. I’m still laughing.
I’m really rooting for Damien Chazelle, but I must admit that I really don’t think La La Land is deserving for best picture. There is just too much other talent in that category. At any rate, it will be a stiff race
Sad to see Amy Adams get overlooked. She was incredible in Arrival.
I hear you on La La Land. As much as I enjoyed it, Whiplash stuck with me a lot longer than Chazelle’s latest. Out of the Best Picture nominees, I would list the film either 4 or 5 in my ranking. That is not a knock on La La Land, I just enjoyed Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, and Hell or High Water more.
I’ve seen most but now will scramble to track down the last few.
Of the major contenders, I still need to see: Hacksaw Ridge, My Life as a Zucchini, Captain Fantastic, Moana and Lion.
I’m glad Arrival got so many nominations, but how could the Academy snub Amy Adams?! Meanwhile, I’m glad that Deadpool did not receive a Best Picture nomination like it was being talked about. What do you think about La La Land tying the all-time record for 14 nominations? Do you think it’s deserving, or just an overall weak year that La La Land is capitalizing on?
I was surprised Lucas Hedges got nominated for Manchester by the Sea. He gave a spot on performance and played that character so well, pleasantly surprised he got a nomination !
