The 88th Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning! What are your thoughts on the nominees? Which ones surprised you? How many of the nominated films do you still need to see?
The biggest surprise for me, and it was a pleasant one, was Theeb getting nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Also happy to see Winter on Fire and Cartel Land get nominated in the documentary category. As for the shocking omissions, I would have to say Carol and Sicario not getting Best Picture nods, as well as Ryan Coogler and Ridley Scott not being in the director conversation, really stood out for me.

Most surprisingly for me were probably the omissions…specifically Sicario for picture and acting
Sicario’s omission was surprising as well. It is surprising that the film did not connect with voters.
