Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins can currently be seen on the big screen in the summer blockbuster Godzilla. Back in 2006 she played the role of Terri in Matthew Platts-Mills chilling short film Hollow China. The story follows a successful entrepreneur, Sam (Merryn Owen), who will do anything to avoid confronting his inner feelings. As his relationship with Terri deteriorates, Sam is immersed in a world where his brutal subconscious is in control. Though the brief violence in the film is a tad graphic, Platts-Mills manages to toe the line between drama and psychological horror rather well. It all adds up to an interesting look at one man’s slow decent into madness.
