Today’s short is one of those films that expertly demonstrates how a strong performance can transcend a work. The premise of Method Actor is descriptively simple, we witness an actor (played by John Shrapnel) as he monologues about his craft. The more he talks about his career, the further insight we get into the dark mind of actors. Though visually captivating, it was shot in 35mm, what really makes this film tick is the wonderful performance by Shrapnel, who is best known for his work in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy. Shrapnel brings a dark gravitas to the piece that just lingers in your mind.
