This is a perfect example of why I am glad we are highlighting more short films. Today’s short, Next Floor, is easily one of the most creative things I have seen this year. Next Floor is an extremely inventive film that takes a unique approach to exploring decadent excess. Though director Denis Villeneuve has received international acclaim for films like Prisoners and Incendies, he will always have a place in my heart solely based on his first three feature films. If you have not seen Polytechnique, Maelstrom or August 32nd on Earth, do yourself a favour and seek them out. If you need more convincing just look at what Villeneuve masterfully achieves in less than twelve minutes with Next Floor.
